Overview
Lilia Eberhardt is the central protagonist of The Witch Of Chronicles. Although formally recognised as the Witch Of Chronicles, she lives quietly in Greenwich, works at a bookstore and spends her free time exploring magical ruins in search of forgotten artefacts.
Lilia was exiled from her hidden magical home at fifteen after a destructive magical incident. Removed from formal education and mage society, she continued studying independently and became one of the broadest Ancient Magic users of her generation. Her collection is housed inside the Archive, a vast extradimensional library reached through the Key Of Requirement.
At the opening of Treasures Of Old, Lilia travels to the Ayutthaya ruins in search of the Book Of Memories. There she encounters Tony Thompson, a non-magical history student pursuing an investigation of his own. Their reluctant cooperation draws Lilia out of isolation and into a mystery connected to the death of her closest friend, Mia Thorne.
Personality
Lilia is lively, curious, playful and intensely enthusiastic about magical history. Artefacts and ruins can turn her into an unstoppable lecturer. She likes teasing Tony, dramatising explanations and approaching dangerous Domains with a level of excitement that sensible people would reserve for things less likely to eat them.
Her cheerfulness coexists with social insecurity. Years of exile left her guarded, awkward and slow to trust new relationships. She often assumes that people approaching her want something from her. Once she feels safe, however, she is talkative, affectionate and emotionally expressive.
Lilia is compassionate and flexible about rules, but curiosity can make her reckless. She is capable of calm leadership when somebody is in danger even if her ordinary behaviour resembles a history professor powered entirely by sugar and forbidden doors.
Magic And Skills
Lilia develops magic horizontally. Instead of specialising in one narrow Expression, she gathers a wide catalogue of elemental, defensive, restorative, investigative and utility magic.
Her known early strengths include:
- Exceptional magical knowledge and rapid identification of unfamiliar effects.
- Ancient Magic operated through intent and visualisation.
- Defensive barriers, elemental attacks and restoration.
- Domain navigation, artefact analysis and magical research.
- Creative use of broad spell combinations rather than one dominant finishing move.
- Travel and storage through the Key Of Requirement and the Archive.
This versatility makes her highly adaptable, though not automatically the strongest combatant in every individual category.
Appearance
At twenty-one, Lilia has long brown hair often worn in a slightly messy half-bun, hazel-brown eyes, light freckles and a small rounded nose. She wears round glasses.
In civilian life, she favours loose, comfortable and deliberately unassuming clothes. During expeditions, she wears a white shirt beneath a red vest, red trousers, brown shoes and a red witch’s hat with brown accents. The Key is worn openly around her neck.
