Miriam Thorne is Mia Thorne’s social mother, Tony Thompson’s stepmother and Matt Thompson’s partner. She is a civilian whose family memories are altered by Mia’s erasure, leaving her unable to recognise the daughter whose life structured Tony’s search.
Her ordinary warmth and teasing manner make the supernatural deletion of Mia visible as a domestic absence rather than an abstract magical effect.
Plot
Miriam meets Matt Thompson through work and introduces him to Mia while Tony is still adjusting to the relationship. The future stepsiblings initially clash but gradually become family.
After Mia’s death and erasure, Lilia encounters Miriam expecting a grieving mother. Miriam instead treats the name as part of one of Tony’s strange pranks. The scene confirms that the loss has altered other people’s memories, not merely removed physical evidence.
Miriam remains important as proof that Tony and Lilia’s memories of Mia survive in a world whose ordinary family continuity no longer does.
