House Vetus is Arcaneum’s gold house of intelligence, curiosity and magical ingenuity. It carries the name and Owl symbol of Vincent Vetus.
Its members are not required to cast like Vetus or share his moral choices.
Identity And Placements
Mai’s change is the sole recorded case in which the Mirror accepts a different placement without being persuaded by a substantive argument. It remains unconvinced, but allows the choice.
The two placements make Vetus the shared institutional ground of Lilia and Mai’s rivalry. Curiosity produces Lilia’s Archive and Mai’s Modern mastery, but can also become Vincent’s willingness to turn people into experiments.

Established with Arcaneum in the founder era.
Role And Significance
Vetus frames intelligence as method rather than morality. The same curiosity can preserve knowledge, innovate responsibly or rationalise violation.
