Overview
Tony Thompson is the deuteragonist of The Witch Of Chronicles and a non-magical history student from Greenwich. After the death of his stepsister, Tony rejects the incomplete official account and begins investigating evidence that points beyond the ordinary world.
His search leads him to the same Domain as Lilia Eberhardt, an exiled witch hunting the Book Of Memories. Tony cannot cast magic, while Lilia possesses the knowledge and access needed to survive the ruin. Lilia can solve the Domain alone, but Tony’s analytical reasoning makes him useful enough that neither can dismiss the other.
Their partnership begins as a practical bargain. Tony asks how every supernatural mechanism works; Lilia asks why anybody would look at a magical ruin and fail to be delighted. The resulting friction makes him the main outsider through whom readers learn the hidden world’s rules.
Personality
Tony is intelligent, sceptical, stubborn and relentlessly analytical. He prefers direct questions and coherent systems, and he reacts to mystical grandeur by asking what it actually does.
His humour is dry and sarcastic. He can appear cold or arrogant when he is uncertain how to engage emotionally, especially in unfamiliar situations. Behind that reserve, he is deeply loyal. His investigation is driven by refusal to let someone he loved be reduced to an unanswered case.
Tony is brave in an unglamorous way: he can remain functional while frightened because he concentrates on the next actionable problem. The same habit can make him dangerously confident that every risk can be controlled if he understands enough of its rules.
Skills And Limitations
Tony has no Gate and cannot become a conventional mage. His early value comes from abilities that do not require spellcasting:
- Strong historical research and evidence analysis.
- Rapid identification of patterns, rules and loopholes.
- Puzzle-solving under pressure.
- Scepticism toward unsupported magical assumptions.
- Willingness to translate supernatural problems into testable systems.
- Persistence when records, witnesses and ordinary explanations fail him.
How Tony gains access to places a non-mage should not be able to enter is part of the story’s mystery and is deliberately withheld here.
Appearance
Tony has curly, dishevelled brown hair and round glasses. His untidy appearance contrasts with the wealthy, polished household in which he was raised. When formally dressed, he appears much more composed.
His exact height, build and eye colour remain TBC. Lilia repeatedly teases him about being short, but the universe has declined to produce a measuring tape.
