About

| Name | Sage |
| Category | Formal magical title |
| Meaning | Exceptional recognised mastery or contribution |
| Known holder | Lilia Eberhardt — Witch Of Chronicles |
| Not held by | Mai Mathers in current canon |
A Sage is a mage formally recognised with a title reflecting exceptional mastery, identity or contribution. The title carries institutional and personal weight beyond a power rating.
Lilia accepts “the Witch Of Chronicles” in 2022 with mixed feelings.
Recognition
Lilia receives the title Witch Of Chronicles after establishing the Archive and her artefact-centred work. She accepts it with a bitter aftertaste shaped by exile and her relationship to institutional recognition.
Mai’s arc is partly driven by Archie’s refusal to grant her a Sage title despite extraordinary Modern mastery. Black later exploits that insecurity. Mai’s technique is Genesis Engine; she is not canonically “the Witch Of Genesis.”
History And Development
Named Sage titles predate the modern cast; the complete succession and title registry remain undefined.
Role And Significance
Sagehood makes recognition a character conflict. Power, innovation and institutional approval overlap without becoming identical.
