Mana is the usable, positively charged energy distributed by the Ley Lines. It sustains life and supplies mages with the raw fuel transformed into spells and Expressions.
Casting does not annihilate mana. It expends the charge and leaves a carrier that must return to the cycle.
Properties
Charge And Vessel
The sources distinguish the useful charge from the metaphysical vessel carrying it. Experience recovered from the Cycle Of Souls revitalises empty entropic carriers into fresh mana. This makes mana renewable through transformation, not creation from nothing.
Magical Use
Magic Operation draws and converts mana. Ancient casters shape it through visualised intent; Modern casters use Primordium and fixed frameworks. Catalysts can improve power, stability or precision without replacing the need for a viable source and method.
Pure And Cursed
“Pure” describes compatibility with the Ley-Line cycle, not moral virtue. Cursed magic uses the same empty class of carrier but charges it through intense emotion outside the Lines. Rule Three prevents the two charged states from simply blending.
History And Development
Mana predates mage society. Formal categories and casting methods develop later as mages learn to describe and regulate what the Ley Lines already circulate.
Role And Significance
Mana makes magic materially accountable. Every effect spends a usable state and produces waste that must go somewhere.
