Elisabeth, called Lisa, is the human template and emotional anchor used in Project Astaroth. Archie Rosenberg and Falkenrath Black are assigned to protect her during their final year at Arcaneum.
Lisa recognises Astaroth as an abused person and persuades the two prodigies to help find her. Meredith’s murder of Lisa triggers Astaroth’s retaliation and the schism that eventually turns Black into the Lord Of Souls.
Plot
Lisa is used as a biological or magical template because of her compatibility with Astaroth. When Archie and Black receive their supposedly confidential retrieval mission, she refuses to accept the institution’s framing of the artificial spirit as an object.
Lisa leads them toward Astaroth and is able to calm her. The connection allows the young mages to understand the scale of the abuse behind the project.
Meredith murders Lisa in 1892. Astaroth immediately annihilates Meredith. Black’s grief and anger at ordinary humans’ involvement in magical affairs become part of the ideology that drives him away from Archie and into the Second Great Wizarding War.

Thematic Function
Lisa is the moral witness of Secrets Of Rosenberg. She has less raw power than everyone trying to control Astaroth, yet she is the person who sees her most clearly. Her death is therefore not only a personal loss but the removal of the relationship that could have proved coexistence possible.
