About
| Field | Information |
|---|---|
| Name | Ley Line Contract |
| Basis | Rule Six — Promise |
| Requirement | Willing participation by the contracting entities |
| Effect | Reality upholds the agreed terms |
| Known forms | Mutual pact and Mage Of Time stewardship contract |
A Ley Line Contract places a voluntarily made promise under the authority of the Ley Lines. Once accepted, reality bends to preserve the literal agreement.
The mechanism can protect trust, grant authority or become a trap when wording survives after the relationship behind it has changed.
Mechanics
Binding Pacts
Archie and Black swear in 1889 never to harm one another. The pact prevents direct attack through two wars. During Operation Zero, Black engineers circumstances in which Archie kills himself; Black only touches the body after death ends the pact. Literal compliance therefore coexists with total betrayal.
Stewardship Contract
The Mage Of Time enters a different class of direct relationship with the Lines. The contract grants an exception to Rule One while making the mage responsible for protecting and managing the system. Archie’s Tempus authority is severed from his copied soul information at death because the contract is not a transferable spell.
History And Development
Reinhardt is the first known mage to form the stewardship contract. Binding pacts become a recognised feature of mage law and personal agreements.
Role And Significance
Contracts turn language into physics. They reward precision but demonstrate that technically perfect wording cannot preserve the moral meaning of a promise.
