Overview
Ancient Magic is the original method of casting: the mage visualises an effect and directly shapes raw mana into it. No fixed incantation guarantees the result.
Its difficulty encourages users to specialise deeply in one aspect and develop an Expression.
Casting Method
Ancient casting combines a functional Gate, intent, visualisation and manual mana shaping. Its flexibility allows techniques that a fixed spell framework may not express, but poor focus or inaccurate mental modelling can make it fail or become dangerous.
Disorientation is therefore a meaningful counter: the Hanged Man’s Inverted Horizon makes stable visualisation much harder.
