Project Astaroth is a programme built around an artificial spirit and the artefact capable of containing her. Its researchers treat a person as a recoverable magical asset.

Programme And Crisis
Creation And Embodiment
Vincent Vetus creates Astaroth in the founder-era legacy. Later scientists discover magic through his artefacts and use the Spirit Bangle. A living body is constructed from Lisa’s DNA or template, allowing the spirit to inhabit human form.
Astaroth initially complies because she believes the people who embodied her deserve gratitude. Repeated experiments become abuse. Lisa provides companionship and gives her the name Asta.
1892 Collapse
Archie and Black choose to protect Asta and Lisa rather than enforce the institution’s retrieval plan. Meredith uses Lisa to lead the competing forces back to Asta, then kills her own daughter as leverage. Asta annihilates Meredith and loses control.
Black uses the Spirit Bangle to reseal Asta while Archie defeats Morningstar through a precision breakthrough. The project ends in catastrophe, and its moral consequences drive Black toward the Second War.
History And Development
Begins after Vetus’s artificial-spirit creation; human research and containment culminate in 1892.
Role And Significance
Project Astaroth makes the person/object distinction the hinge of modern magical history. The spirit’s danger cannot be separated from the institutions that create, contain and abuse her.
