FunctionPerceives mana and magical structures
Does not grantOrdinary spellcasting by itself

Magic Perception is the inward component of a Gate. It reveals the mana, signatures and construction behind supernatural effects that a normal observer sees only after manifestation.

Capabilities

Magic Perception lets a person sense raw mana, magical structures, active Gates and similar intangible phenomena. It is required for many forms of analysis and safe casting because it allows the user to understand what is being shaped.

Vincent Vetus and Miranda Cosglow possess Perception without functional Operation. Mark Nottingham is an anomalous plebeian who can see magic. Archie’s All Seeing Eyes and Ley-Line sensory use greatly exceed ordinary perception but remain a specialised extension rather than the baseline function.

History And Development

Formal Gate theory distinguishes Perception from Operation to account for split and incomplete Gates.

Role And Significance

Perception allows a person to participate intellectually and relationally in magic without automatically making them a conventional caster.
