Mabeasts are magical creatures with species- or individual-level specialties. They vary in intelligence, resistance, form and relationship to mages.

The setting treats them as living beings rather than a single monster class.

Classification

A mabeast’s specialty functions similarly to an elemental or practical type. Rarity measures difficulty or exceptional power; metamorphic stage measures development. The two should not be collapsed into one number.

Kyoko Kaedehara nurtures or creates many legendary magical creatures. Miranda Cosglow becomes the Witch Of Beasts through communication, conservation and partnership despite lacking Magic Operation. Her Pouch Of Requirement carries a protected roster.

Dragons have the most explicit current developmental taxonomy. Wiisels can reshape form and viscosity. The broader species catalogue remains open.

History And Development

Mabeasts predate mage society; Kyoko’s work and Arcaneum scholarship shape modern relations with them.

Role And Significance

Mabeasts expand magic beyond human casting and make care, ecology and interspecies consent part of the world’s power structure.
