The Hanged Man, often shortened to Hangman, is a neutral but friendly Harbinger whose participation is motivated by something other than loyalty to Black. Curse - Purgatory controls suspension, orientation and repeated experience.
The formal title is Hanged Man; Hangman is an accepted shorthand rather than a separate character.
Plot
Hanged Man belongs to the modern Order but remains neutral and comparatively friendly. The character’s independent reason for participating and exact role across the operations remain TBC.
The current canon preserves this alignment distinction so later plotting does not accidentally flatten every Harbinger into a loyal Black follower.
Role
Thematic Function
Purgatory is repetition without progress. The power does not violate the Law of Time; it forces the brain and body to replay a recent pattern, turning experience itself into confinement.
Powerset
Curse - Purgatory has three layers:
- Suspension: hangs an object or person in mid-air without momentum while retaining potential energy.
- Inverted Horizon: flips the target’s internal gravity and undermines the visualisation required for Ancient Magic.
- The Infinite Loop: forces the brain to repeat the last three seconds of movement and mana shaping. This is a cursed neurological loop, not time travel.
Conditions, costs and counters remain TBC.
