Transfiguration: Soul is Black’s forbidden extension of matter transfiguration into living and identity-bearing structures. It is the foundation of his title, the Lord Of Souls.

Operation

Soul Transfiguration permits Black to alter organic matter, persist beyond bodily defeat and copy soul information from the dead. It supports his return after the Second Great Wizarding War and his occupation of Mark’s corpse during Operation Zero.

After Archie dies, Black copies memories and spatial knowledge. Archie’s identity does not continue and Tempus is unavailable because the contract is not contained in copied information.

In 2045 Neo steals or copies Black’s own soul information. Current canon explicitly rejects the idea that Black then continues as an independent personality inside Neo.

Older drafts assigning an inherent soul-erosion cost to Black’s transformations are discarded.

History And Development

Developed after Black leaves Arcaneum in 1892 and masters cursed magic; central to his survival after 1920.

Role And Significance

The technique makes information transferable while keeping identity morally and metaphysically contested. Black can take what a person knew without proving he has preserved the person.
