The Founding Four are the legendary mages who organise early mage society: Reinhardt Rosenberg, Kyoko Kaedehara, Vincent Vetus and Benedict Blight. They do not invent magic, but establish institutions and specialised disciplines that define how later generations use it.
Arcaneum’s four houses preserve their names and values.
Members And Domains
Founding Work
The four develop a hidden mage society alongside the plebeian world, establish Arcaneum and create a division of expertise broad enough to organise teaching, governance and magical research.
Reinhardt enters the first contract with the Ley Lines. Kyoko nurtures magical life and spirit relationships. Vetus compensates for a broken Gate through Legendary artefacts and Domains. Blight perfects healing through Mending.
Schism
Blight discovers Cursed Magic and argues that freedom requires power beyond Ley-Line law. Reinhardt and Kyoko reject adoption; Vetus is initially curious but withdraws as the experiments escalate. Blight’s Root Chamber demonstration breaks the group and begins the First Great Wizarding War.
Blight kills Kyoko. Reinhardt defeats Blight’s body but cannot prevent his cursed-saturated soul from remaining in Ley-Line limbo. Vetus’s own forbidden work—Astaroth and Soul Transmission—ensures the founder era continues to generate crises long after the war.
History And Development
Formed before the recorded modern timeline; broken by the First Great Wizarding War. Their institutions and bloodlines remain active through 2045.
Role And Significance
The founders are not a clean heroic origin. Every later system inherits both a genuine public good and the unaddressed cost of how it was built.
