A soul is the metaphysical container for identity, memory, experience and the Gate. At death it is normally drawn into the Ley Lines for processing.
The setting distinguishes a person from a copy of their soul information.
Structure And Fate
Information And Identity
Soul information includes memories, learned structures and magical knowledge. Black can copy such information from a dead body, but a copied pattern does not necessarily carry the original person’s continuing subjectivity.
After Archie dies, Black acquires memories and an imperfect working understanding of space. Archie does not persist as a resident identity, and Tempus is not inherited because the Ley-Line contract is external and personal.
In 2045 Neo takes Black’s soul information. Current canon likewise states that Black’s identity does not survive inside Neo.
Processing And Avoidance
Ordinary death leads into the Cycle Of Souls. Blight avoids completion through cursed rejection. Vincent uses Soul Transmission across living descendants. These are distinct mechanisms and neither proves that a fully processed soul can be resurrected.
History And Development
Soul specialists and cursed researchers develop ways to copy, alter or evade ordinary passage, driving the central conflicts around Black, Asta, Blight and Vetus.
Role And Significance
The separation between information and identity protects death from becoming a data-transfer inconvenience while allowing inheritance, haunting and copied skill to matter.
