Mage society is the concealed civilisation of people, creatures and institutions able to perceive or use magic. It exists inside the same world as ordinary society while hiding its systems and conflicts from most plebeians.
Its founders establish Arcaneum and a global ruling structure, but the complete modern government remains to be defined.
Social Structure
Mage society regulates cursed magic, educates through Arcaneum and protects hidden settlements such as Wurzelheim. Founder families and Sage titles carry influence, while artefacts and bloodline reputation can preserve power across generations.
The society repeatedly fails people who do not fit its binary classifications: Miranda and Vetus cannot operate magic normally; Ken relies on a spirit; Mark perceives magic without a conventional Gate; Asta is treated as a constructed object.
The Great Wizarding Wars expose successive institutional blind spots—law without freedom, coexistence without accountability and dependence on a single invincible protector.
History And Development
Organised by the Founding Four before 1800; reshaped by three Great Wizarding Wars and the 2045 aftermath.
Role And Significance
Mage society is not a decorative secret world. Its categories decide who receives education, protection, suspicion and personhood.
