Miranda Cosglow, the Witch Of Beasts, is a magicless-born member of a respected mage family who can perceive magic but cannot perform ordinary Magic Operation. She builds her life around communication and voluntary partnership with mabeasts rather than accepting that a broken Gate excludes her from mage society.
Her closest companion is Brelia, a shape-changing Wiisel. Miranda houses a wider roster in the Pouch Of Requirement, teaches at Arcaneum, hunts poachers and later joins the Greenwich resistance.
Plot
A Mage Without Operation
Miranda is born into a respected magical family with Magic Perception but no functional Magic Operation. She is bullied and underestimated because she cannot cast in the accepted manner. Her ability to perceive and communicate with mabeasts becomes the basis of a different vocation.
Witch Of Beasts
Miranda becomes a professor, researcher and hunter of magical-creature poachers. She carries safe habitat and a varied roster through the Pouch Of Requirement. Brelia is both her closest friend and the reference partner for her Signature Technique, Symbiotic Ascension.
Family And War
Miranda’s daughter Mila becomes her apprentice and later develops feelings for Tony. During Operation Zero and the Third Great Wizarding War, Miranda helps defend White and supports the resistance centred on Greenwich. Mila’s death at Blight’s hands gives that fight a personal cost.

Miranda broadens the definition of a mage. Her authority comes from scholarship, empathy, fieldcraft and relationships rather than a conventional Expression. She also demonstrates the setting’s central distinction between a contract based on mutual trust and one imposed by domination.
Powerset
Miranda has Magic Perception but lacks functional Magic Operation, so Symbiotic Ascension is a Signature Technique rather than a personal Ley-Line Expression.
During an Ascension she temporarily joins life essence with a compatible mabeast. They share senses, emotions and awareness; Miranda co-pilots an ascended primal form by combining human judgement with the beast’s instincts. The technique consumes her vitality, shares lethal harm and can leave exhaustion or temporary sensory overlap.
Brelia is the confirmed reference partner. The remainder of Miranda’s compatible roster is intentionally undefined.
