Arcaneum is mage society’s central school and one of its most important political institutions. Founded by Reinhardt Rosenberg, Kyoko Kaedehara, Vincent Vetus and Benedict Blight, it preserves their names through four student houses.
The school teaches Modern Magic widely while supporting advanced Ancient study, artefact work, magical zoology and specialised research.

Education And Government
Arcaneum trains young mages, employs specialist professors and acts as a meeting point for mage authority. Its curriculum includes Modern casting, Ancient theory, Gate study, artefacts, spirits and mabeasts.
Archie serves as Headmaster through the WOC1 and WOC2 period. He brings Lilia back as a faculty assistant and special instructor while Tony remains under supervision because of Blight.
House History
Archie sorts into Rosenberg almost immediately. Falkenrath Black’s contradictory resonance overloads and freezes the Mirror before it can return a result. Black interprets the silence as rejection, chooses Rosenberg and sits beside Archie; the faculty accepts the unprecedented decision. Later placements include Ken in Rosenberg, Miranda’s line in Kaedehara and Lilia/Mai in Vetus.
Root Chamber And Operation Zero
The Root Chamber lies at the school’s lowest level around the highest local concentration of Ley-Line power. Blight first demonstrates cursed magic there during the founder schism.
In 2026, embedded Harbingers and Deathstalkers turn Arcaneum into the site of Operation Zero. Students are held in the Root Chamber while the attackers dismantle Archie’s precision, sight, lifespan and freedom of action. The operation ends with his coerced suicide and Black’s return, triggering the Third Great Wizarding War.
History And Development
Founded before the modern story by the Founding Four. Archie and Black enter in 1885 and graduate through the 1892 Secrets Of Rosenberg crisis. Ken joins as a special student in 2022. Operation Zero devastates the institution in 2026. By 2045 Mai has followed Archie as Headmaster.
Role And Significance
Arcaneum is both refuge and inherited machine. It gives young people knowledge and community while carrying founder-era compromises into every later crisis.
